AT&T has announced, in partnership with NASA that they will develop an Unmanned Aircraft System Traffic Management program that will allow agencies

“The goal is an Unmanned Aircraft System Traffic Management (UTM) solution that supports the safe and highly secure operation of drones in the national airspace.”

It appears a major goal is researching the impact of potential cybersecurity threats…which they feel with the number of drones available today, may increase.

AT&T uses drones to inspect cell towers and measure network performance.

I think this is way ahead of the curve of the realistic need to track drones this way, as a huge percentage of drones purchased only get used for a few months…then boxed back up.

Still, this is the type of things that will be eventually needed.
